Andrejs Poikāns is an artist and researcher based between Riga, Latvia and Berlin, Germany. In his practice he uses new media techniques to experiment with multichannel music, speculative software art, sound performance and sound installation. As a researcher he is fascinated by the topics of psychoanalysis of listening and philosophy of language.
For his recent live performances he constructs computer programs to explore non-conventional sound synthesis techniques. Taking inspiration as much from early conceptual art as from algo-music history, there is an overarching tendency to search for irrationality and daily enchantment in overwhelming sound structures.
Andrejs has performed and presented work in such venues and initiatives as Punctum (Prague, CZ), ’default den haag’ (The Hague, NL), Panke (Berlin, DE) and SODAS2123 (Vilnius, LT).
